Abstract

this study investigates these formulaic expressions through the lens of corpus linguistics, discourse analysis, and pragmatics, aiming to uncover not only their frequency but also their functional roles in media discourse. By analyzing a curated dataset of 10,000 articles from prominent English-language publications (e.g., The New York Times, The Guardian), we demonstrate how clichés serve as cognitive shortcuts for journalists, enabling efficient communication under tight deadlines while simultaneously shaping readers’ perceptions through subtle framing.
